What You May Need
When your baby first arrives in the Neonatal Unit, you will be advised by staff looking after your baby what we recommend you bring in for your baby. This will depend on your baby’s particular needs and treatment and whether they have been born prematurely or at term. Essentials you can prepare to bring in are; cotton wool, nappies, waterwipes should you wish to use them and cotton buds for those babies that are born prematurely.
You will also be asked to bring in a small supply of clothing, such as vests, hats, and baby grows. If your baby is premature and in an incubator the most they will wear in the early stages is a nappy and possibly a hat. This allows the nurses to observe your baby more clearly, whilst also attaching monitors and lines. The incubators are kept at a constant temperature, ensuring that your baby is kept warm. Over a period time you will be allowed to start dressing your baby in either vests or baby grows.
In line with safe sleep guidance, we do not recommend putting toys next to your baby in their cot as this can cause your baby to overheat if it were to fall on them. The Lullaby Trust has some excellent guidance we recommend all parents follow.
Please see www.lullabytrust.org.uk/ for more information.
SUPPORT BORN TOO SOON AS YOU SHOP
A3 Baby Barn support our charity Born Too Son regularly by holding findraisers. They have also been in to the NNU to teach parents and staff all they need to know about how to fit car seats and how ensure baby is safely placed in his or her seat.
They also stock a range of premature bay clothing.

Information taken from their website:
We stock all the baby equipment you’ll need – prams, push chairs, car seats, travel systems, cots – from all the leading brands – and we know them inside-out. We sell in-person, in-store to give you the advice you need to get the right items for you. We pop out to your car to check your pram will fit in your boot and to fit your car seat for you.
And what about price? We do everything we can to keep our prices in line with those elsewhere. And we’ll always recommend the right items for your budget. In fact, customers often buy something cheaper than they’d planned, because we’ve been able to suggest an alternative. We love that!
