Henry’s Story

After waking up in the middle of the night with my waters breaking, I went into labour at 33 weeks. After a quick labour, our son Henry arrived and was immediately taken to NNU to be looked after. He needed help breathing as his lungs weren’t quite ready and had to be intubated for a few days and fed through tubes.

The first trip into the NNU was very scary and I felt helpless. But after a very short time, the machines for breathing and jaundice became normal and the staff in NNU like family.

I was helped with expressing milk, changing nappies in an incubator, tube feeding and eventually breastfeeding. Every single staff member is so dedicated to their little patients and all the parents – the level of care is exceptional.

After 2 weeks we were allowed to take Henry home. In a way we were sad to leave our new NNU family even though we were happy Henry was strong enough to go home, but we have been back to visit lots since then!
