| What you will need When your baby first arrives in the Neonatal Unit, you will be advised by staff on duty what you will need to provide for your baby whilst it is in the unit. This very much depends on your baby’s particular needs, a full term baby’s requirements can be very different from a premature baby’s needs and also depending on the treatment that the individual baby requires. In general, you will be asked to provide nappies, cotton wool balls, and in the case of premature babies cotton buds. You will also be asked to bring in a small supply of clothing, such as vests, hats, and baby grows. If your baby is premature and in an incubator the most they will wear in the early stages is a nappy and possibly a hat. This gives access for the nurses for attaching monitors etc. The incubators are kept at a constant temperature, ensuring that the baby is kept warm. Over a period time you will be allowed to start dressing the baby in either vests or baby grows. You can bring in one or two small toys to place in your baby’s cot or incubator, but please do check with the staff before doing so. USEFUL INFORMATION
